#7 – Quantum Eyz (4/14/14)
The mindset behind this art evolved through the isolation, loneliness and depression I was feeling throughout my incarceration at Oregon’s only penitentiary (Oregon State Penitentiary) in early 2014 while locked in a 5 x 7 cell. Being locked up for 21 hours every day created a deep psychological need for expression in me.
Due to the very limited resources in this maximum-security environment this piece was created using only limited “authorized” items. All its angles and lines were made by using my plastic prison issued ID card and some assorted lids from canteen food items that I used to make some of its circles. I finally was able to get ahold of some 100-weight vellum surface artists paper to create this art.
There was no real planning involved in creating this piece or any preconceived ideas as far as the outcome was concerned, as my creative mind and emotional state guided my hand throughout the 187 hours it took me to complete it!
‘Quantum Eyz’ represents a myriad of principles and concepts that relate to my parapsychological and mystical experiences while I was living in Portland, Oregon on and off from 2002 to 2013.
