#5 – Quisling of Mind (1/20/14)
This was my fourth completed work of art while I was incarcerated at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Oregon. Unlike the other pieces I did at Coffee Creek, this paper does not have the ‘ABC’ lines, but it’s also provided by the Department of Corrections to inmates while at Coffee Creek during their “stay”.
This art piece was created by using a Bic pen, a round part of a coffee cup and the edges of my prison ID only. I called it “Quisling of Mind”, because “quisling” means ‘a person who helps the enemy take control of his or her country’. The design is snake-like with no beginning or end. Plus each individual part of the piece both looks concave and convex. This becomes more evident when you stare at one part of the art while you turn the paper 360 degrees slowly in one direction. This piece is designed to be interactive with one’s mind.
